The Director's Corner

Mrs. Amanda Feenstra began her dance training at the age of two. Mrs. Feenstra has studied many styles of dance, including ballet, jazz, modern, cheer dance, and ballroom.  Mrs. Feenstra is a former member of the National Champion FBISD Austin Angels Dance Team where she held officer positions for two consecutive years and had the opportunity to perform at Epcot Center, Sea World, and the Governor's Inaugural Parade. 

Mrs. Feenstra continued dancing throughout college, attending the University of Texas at Austin and the University of Houston.  At the University of Houston, Mrs. Feenstra was a member of University Dance Theatre and  the modern dance company, Central Repertory Dancers, Directed by Deborah Quanaim.  During college Mrs. Feenstra was honored with an invitation to participate in the Houston Limon Project where she trained and performed with the world-re-known Jose Limon Dance Company. She graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University of Houston in 2005 with a Bachelor of Science.   

After graduating college, Mrs. Feenstra continued her dance career as a performer, choreographer, and teacher.  As a dancer she has had the opportunity to perform at many prestigious locations in and out of Texas.  Mrs. Feenstra continues to dance professionally and was recently featured as a guest artist and choreographer with Sandra Organ / Earthen Vessels Dance Co., as well as, the 2011 Big Range Dance Festival.  

A member of the Texas Dance Educator's Association, Mrs. Feenstra has been teaching dance for 9 years and is certified to teach dance, PE, and health. Before becoming the Dance Director at Dayton High School Mrs. Feenstra was the Director of the Wildcatdet Dance Team at Humble High School.  Under her direction the team won numerous first place trophies and choreography awards and her soloists have won top honors, including the 2011 title of Miss Dance Drill Team Texas.  Many of her former students are currently dancing at the University of Houston, Texas Tech, UNT, and Sam Houston. 

Previous positions held include: Dance Instructor at North Shore Senior High, Founding Director / Instructor of the Contemporary School of Fine Arts Dance Program, Resident Dance Instructor for Houston Community College, Barbizon Modeling School Instructor and Booking Agent, Vicki Michelle Cheer and Dance Studio Instructor, and Wesley Elementary Dance Instructor. 

Mrs. Feenstra and her husband, Jeremiah, have a cat named Alex, three poodles named Dutch, Rusty, and Little, and they have been happily married since December 2004.
